Sowing with Sewing
In 2015 the seeds of the Sewing Ministry of Anchor of Hope Community Development gradually developed from requests that came in from students and clients engaged n other programs. Marinda, who is naturally creative and a very talented seamstress, took the challenge on board and began to source sewing machines and various technologies that would make this possible.
in the same year 5 ladies enrolled in basic lessons, teaching them how to sew with sewing machines.
By 2017, THRIVE®, as it had become known, had 25 students and had to split into 2 groups on 2 different days in order to accomodate the growing number of students…
THE AIMS OF THE SEWING CLASSES ARE:
To assist an income generating skill;
To assist students in starting a small business – giving them access to sewing machines and raw materials in order to produce resellable items;
To assist in gaining access to distribution platforms such as flea markets and the like;
To train people in basic understanding of basic business principles (manufacturing, marketing, pricing & profit etc.).
